Building good habits is the essence of a well-lived life and how to happy. Happiness only ever comes from how we feel about our experience of life and what is happening around us. What you feel, have or lack right now is the result of the habits you have built weeks, months and years ago.

Here are three habits, when used on a daily basis, will raise your happiness steadily, and over an extended period.

Happiness Habit #1: Counting Your Victories Every Day

You can train yourself with gratitude to make it easier to see the bright side of life. Feeling good about the future, as well as the present, is a really important part of what makes us happy. By taking just a few minutes each day to focus on the things you’re grateful for, you can make a real longer-term difference to your levels of happiness.

Each day make a list of all of your wins and the difficulties you have surpassed. Find at least three positive things about your day no matter how small. Trying to find three things rather than just one will encourage you to reflect as much on the little pleasures in life as the bigger ones, however bad you think your day has been.

Happiness Habit #2: Plan and Schedule Your Daily Tasks

Proper planning makes you confident and calm, and the more you do it, the better you get at it. You know that calmness you get when everything goes according to the plan?

Take some time each weekend to plan your entire week. Download a phone calendar and schedule a major task you have each day of the week. A goal that if you achieve nothing else, you`ll feel accomplished. Put that goal on your calendar and check it off once you complete it. Having a goal to work towards can make us more motivated, and will provide a sense of achievement and worth when we achieve it. Do this for a month, and you`ll see a massive difference in your mood, work-ethic and confidence.

Happiness Habit #3: Find the Time for Yourself

When you start your own business, the line between work and life can become very blurry—even nonexistent. It can be so easy to pour yourself mentally, physically, and emotionally into your business to the point of burning out. Taking time for yourself is so vital to your success as an entrepreneur, it can’t be emphasized enough.   Self-care will look different from one person to another: it could be relaxing with a bath, taking the time to cook a healthy meal, reading about a subject you’re interested in or learning a new skill. Self-care can:

  1. Reduce stress levels
  2. Improve clarity and creativity
  3. Boost Productivity

Don’t wait until you have the time. Schedule it if need be while planning out your week. Let’s face it, not many of us suddenly have lots of time to indulge in looking after ourselves, so make it a regular part of your routine. Reflect on how you looked after yourself each day, prioritize yourself, and reap the benefits.
